Did you know? Many think wearing a Tallit is just something to enhance prayer. The truth is: when you wear a Tallit, you’re fulfilling a commandment written straight out in the Torah (Numbers, 15:37-41) mentioned at the end of the Shmah prayer. God commands to wear tzitzit strings with one blue string strung into it, on the corners of four cornered garments, so that when we see the blue string we’re reminded of the ocean, which reflects the skies, which reminds us of the Heavens and thereby reminds us to do all of God’s commandments.
Although today the Jewish people have lost the knowledge of the exact blue color referred to (Tchelet), we can still partially fulfill the commandment by wearing the tzitzit strings on the Tallit, just without the blue one. Some are of the opinion that we’ve rediscovered the special blue color referred to in the Torah, extracted from a certain snail. Indeed, a Tallit with a blue tzitzit string colored in this Tchelet color is available in our collection.
